To celebrate their anniversary, Lovemonk has teamed up with them to bring back the cuasi-legendary Marula Soulfood series for a special 7” release: two gems from The Jade’s debut, “a total triumph of an album” in the words of BBC6’s Craig Charles.
“Love Harder”, the first full-length by The Jade, is the brainchild of Oli Stewart, aka Casbah 73, who brings together a transatlantic family of heavyweight players, all heart and heat, with Madrid as the home base and ears tuned wide open.
‘Let The Light In’ is exactly that: a big, bright ray of sunshine. Nebraska’s Josh Hoyer tears into the vocal with real fire, riding exuberant rhythms and grooves that blur the line between sweat-filled basement club and open-air bliss. Flip it over and ‘Si no me quieres esperar’ is pure mischief on wax: Cuban vocalist Ale Gutiérrez (Habana Abierta, El Combo Batanga) leads the charge with playful charisma, gliding through a samba-jazz fusion that flirts and teases, while Deborah Ayo’s backing turns it into an irresistible dialogue.
The original pack comes with a recipe and a dope illustration by Mikel Jaso, given away at a very special party. We managed to snag a few extra copies (without the jackets) and trust us, they won’t be around for long.

‘Let The Light In’ es exactamente eso: un espléndido y brillante rayo de sol. Josh Hoyer ofrece una interpretación vocal poderosa sobre ritmos desenfrenados y grooves fluidos que difuminan la línea entre el sótano de un club y la euforia de un set al aire libre. En el otro lado, ‘Si no me quieres esperar’ es pura travesura en vinilo: el cantante cubano Ale Gutiérrez (Habana Abierta, El Combo Batanga) despliega un carisma juguetón, deslizándose a través de una fusión de samba y jazz que coquetea y provoca, mientras que el acompañamiento de Deborah Ayo convierte el tema en un diálogo irresistible.
La edición original viene con una receta y una ilustración genial de Mikel Jaso en la portada, que se regaló en una fiesta muy especial. Hemos conseguido unas cuantas copias sin fundas y, créenos, no durarán mucho.
